Graduation Masks Clarification

Good Morning,

I previously sent a question to Commissioner Johnson for clarification on face coverings and pictures at Graduation Ceremonies.

Commissioner Johnson has clarified that the graduates must wear face coverings during the ceremony, but may remove the face covering for a picture if the photographer is at least six feet from the graduate. If you have family members of the same household participating, they must also wear face coverings during the ceremony, but may remove the face covering for a family picture if the photographer is at least six feet from the graduate and family members.  Face coverings should be put back on after pictures are taken.

I would recommend that you have the photographer set up farther than the minimum six feet if your staging area allows.

Thanks,

Dave Jones

Materials Collection- IMPORTANT

If you haven’t heard, all instruction for the 2019-2020 school year ends on Friday, May 15.  As most teachers post new learning, and live events on Mondays, it occurred to me that we can begin collecting devices, texts, library books, and other school-owned materials as students are finishing up their classes.  Beginning Wednesday, May 13th, parents and students can make unscheduled drops at the main entrance of the school.  The custodial staff will standby to provide bags, index cards, and marking pens into which materials are deposited and bags labeled.  These bags will remain in quarantine for 72 hours when the library staff will open and catalogue each return.

Materials not collected this week MUST BE returned next week on the following schedule:

High School:

Materials collection should occur between 8:00 AM- 3:00 PM

All Juniors and Seniors must return all school materials on Monday, May 18th.  Seniors with outstanding fees/materials will be informed prior to the conferring of their Diplomas.

All Sophomores and Freshmen must return all school materials on Tuesday, May 19th.

Zoomalogues

SHS’s spring drama production has gone virtual this year as cast performs short student chosen comedic and dramatic monologues for your viewing entertainment. If possible, please reach out to individual students with some virtual applause. They have worked really hard on these and would love some Seward love! Just click on the first photo to begin the performance; the rest will play automatically.-Michele Walker

Graduation Announcement from Mr. Walker

Seward High School is pleased to announce that we will be able to host a live graduation ceremony for the Class of 2020 on Tuesday, May 19th at 7:00 PM as originally scheduled.

Special thanks to Seward Public Radio—KIBH 91.7 FM—for broadcasting this event to the entire community.

We are working on plans to be able to directly involve graduating seniors and their immediate families in this live event and web streaming so that we can remotely involve extended families and friends from Seward and beyond.  Ms. Jordan and Ms. Starr are also working directly with seniors and parents to create a program that will fit this format and organize additional celebrations that are appropriate for this most unprecedented graduation ceremony.

Ms. Jordan and Ms. Starr are also reaching out to Scholarship Presenters to provide video clips of their scholarship and presentation so that we can edit them together to create a digital Awards Ceremony that is worthy of their investment in Seward High’s Class of 2020.

Finally, Mr. Walker has reached out to the Seward Ministerial Association so that they can begin planning a remote Baccalaureate ceremony for Sunday, May 17th.

It is important to remember that these plans are all subject to state and local health mandates and will be advertised as permissions are granted.

Stay tuned as there will be much more information to follow.

In the meantime, stay healthy, follow the mandates, and check in with the teachers every day!

Thanks all, Mr. W-
