Seward High School’s Daily Announcements:

Monday

April 30, 2018

  • Are you trying to decide which classes to take next year? Try Journalism!  We are looking for people who like writing, photography or making videos to post to the school news site: SHSToday.org.  For more information, talk to Ms. Swander or Martha.
  • Last serving day in the cafeteria is May 22nd. Sack lunches will be served. If you will be eating on this day, you must sign up in kitchen by May 11th. There will be no breakfast on this day.
  • Here are the highlights from the Kenai Invitational!
    • The Petrosius siblings whisked the disc into the ozone layer and found themselves comfortably in the finals.
    • Robert Chappell, in his first ever high school athletic event, launched a shotput just inches shy of the finals. After that it was the disc, and then, he hurled himself down the runway, like an agile freight train on an epic journey, and flung himself into the pit of sand.
    • Riley put the shot farther than she had ever put the shot before. If Riley could put the shot a little farther, how much farther could the shot put be put?  She has now acquired an Austrian accent, and will be the starting left tackle for Seward Football.
    • The blur of pink leggings followed by the swish of a blond tail is all that was left, as Ruby shed all-comers by the 600-meter mark to run the fastest mile time in the State of Alaska. No one from any school in the state has run this fast, this year.
    • Speaking of the mile…Sam debuted his mile on Saturday and found himself at the 400-meter mark, on pace for a 4:40 mile. His coach was much relieved to see him slow down and settle in, and when asked after the race why he had made the very wise decision to slow down, he replied, “Because you were screaming at me to slow down?  Also, because I have utmost respect for my seniors and I did not want to crush Zen’s gentle spirit by eclipsing his best time in my first race.”  He really did say, “eclipsing.”  Thank goodness for all that freshman Vocabulary.
    • Zen’s hair ran to another season PR in the mile. Zen was on hand to witness the event.
    • Trey is still sitting at the #1 spot in the state for the 300 hurdles, and now Trapper is right behind him. Did I say, “What’s up with that?”  When these two sculpted specimens of masculine perfection walk on to the track, looking like ancient Greek statues, men cry, women faint, and babies scream.
    • The men’s and Women’s 4X4 teams are now sitting at the #2 spot in the state. Coral, Hana, Ruby and Emma for the women and Beau, Neil, Chris and Zen for the men.  As Freiberg ran by, I heard some admiring female voice from up in the bleachers yell, “I’ll be your beau.”  It was embarrassing.

The SOPHOMORES pulled ahead of the Juniors to move into 3rd place with negative 1,220 points.

Seward High School’s Daily Announcements:

Monday

April 23, 2018

  • We have highlights from the 23-team Homer Invitational Track Meet.
  • Zen finished 6th in the 1600, running a well-prepared, tightly executed race.
  • Ruby finished 2ne in the 1600 and then owned the 800, which puts her in the number one spot in the state.
  • Emma and Hana finished 15th and 16th in the 1600, running the mile faster than either one of them have ever run it.
  • Coral placed 3rd in the disc; 3rd in the high jump, 9th in the 400 and 9th in the 200. Wonder woman has nothing on Coral.
  • Neil and Beau ran to the number 7 and number 8 slot in the 200, which now, slides them into the number 3 and 4 slots for all small schools in Alaska.
  • Ally hurdled to a smooth 7th in the 100’s.
  • Emma Moore also triple jumped to the finals and finished 7th with a shrug and a smile.
  • Trey Ingalls, in his HS hurdle debut looked like a veteran and performed like one, finishing 6th in the 110 high hurdles and 4th in the 300 meter hurdles. He is now listed on athletic.net as the Number One, 300 meter-1,2,3A hurdler in the State of Alaska. What’s up with that?
  • On Tuesday, we will be hosting the seven-team Seward Invitational. Even though you may need your rain gear and your umbrellas, the track will be smoking hot.
